I'm a new writer on Medium. It sounds like I chose an exciting time to start.

Unfortunately, there's an explanation for the rise in highlights/comments on accounts from real and spam accounts. The algorithm changed to incentivize it.

Some articles I read from small but established writers on Medium recommended leaving around ten to one hundred articles a day to grow.

I prefer your approach of commenting little, if at all, but the Medium algorithm encourages this behavior.
